" I'm in a different place now. I... I, I don't know how else to explain it to you, but I got out of that cell and it's like someone painted the world in different colors. And I look at you and I want to tear your eyes out just for looking at me. I just want to hurt someone and it might as well be you. So you should probably go before that happens." |

So this was Earth - it simply had to be - and though she was more than desperate to get back to the fleet, expose what she'd discovered to them, the chance to explore was just too inviting. First, though, she needed a safe place to put the Viper; somewhere nobody would find it. The top of a skyscraper did the job--which was why she'd ended up in Chicago.
And who could hope to keep Starbuck Thrace out of bars? ]
So. Which one of you lovely gentlemen is going to buy a girl dinner? Can't survive on booze alone. What?
[ Abandoned with three half empty glasses, Kara sat back. Okay, so she was high maintenance, but still... She could only eat so many peanuts before the bartender started wanting to charge for refills. She looked for the nearest likely looking punter. Blonde hair, drinking alone--stood and turned the three half filled glasses into one, and carried it over to set it beside him. ]
Hey there. Kara.

While Fraser's company wasn't anything Ray ever opposed (usually), the times they spent apart gave him a chance to recharge, linger at bars and mope. Sometimes drinking at bars alone was just better and far more relaxing than drinking at bars with a friend who drinks very little apart from tea, water and milk, and it saved Ray the embarrassment of his friend asking some dive bar landlord if they stocked chamomile. Fraser had paper work anyway, apparently and Ray had... well he had paper work too. A lot of it. But that didn't mean he'd ever actually get around to doing it, especially not when he's got an evening to himself.
Somehow he'd barely noticed the other blonde at the bar, transfixed as he was at staring into the depths of his pint glass and thinking about God knows what. He'd not set out with any attempts at wooing the ladies, and this wasn't exactly the type of bar he'd usually find a successful target to try and attach himself to. The concept of talking to anyone here had barely crossed his mind and so he'd registered her somewhere in the back of his mind, but that had been about it.
Hard to keep her out of his mind when she's approaching though, and it's her introduction that finally drags his head up from it's drooped position and his gaze towards her with a curious and perfectly interested raise of his eyebrows.
Chick. Talking to him. What a day for the record books this is.]
Uh, Ray. Hi Kara.
[Maybe a smile will totally make up for his failure at intros.]

But guys here aren't so bad; it's not so unlike Caprica, if a little underdeveloped. The lower gravity is good too.
She's smiling as she pushes the beer across to him, glancing off and then turning her eyes back--and then she freezes, looking straight at him. That grin. That face.
Her experiences on New Caprica flash back to her, and they're dominating memories, her hatred for him, the disgust of having his hands on her body; Leoben Conoy. This guy doesn't just look like him, he is him, and Kara responds instantly and without hesitation, lunging out with her fist for his face, then throwing herself out of her chair to knock him to the ground, fists flailing wildly. She was going to turn him to moosh--not that she had the slightest idea how he'd gotten here. What if all these people were Cylons? ]

Ray wasn't expecting the fist hurtling towards his face, wasn't prepared enough to avoid it beyond the instinctual flinch that means she catches the side of his jaw rather than any of the vital areas like the nose. If that hadn't been enough to topple him off his seat, Kara hurtling as him certainly was. He hits the ground hard, winded and clueless, but aware enough that he's quickly trying to protect himself. His left arm comes across his face, trying to shield himself with his forearm as he turns away from the assault, while the right swings out, trying to smack away the offending hits and lash out blindly.
He doesn't do hitting women, but self-defence is self-defence.]
Get off me ya fuckin' crazy.
[Maybe she knew he was a cop and took offence to it. Maybe she's just a loon. Or maybe he really should stop coming to bars like this...]

I'll kill you. I'll kill you.
[ And maybe that was why there were men jumping in to try and pull her off him, startled and having a bit of a laugh at Ray's expense as they get a grip on her flailing arms. She managed to clock one of the helpers across the jaw, but that's no good, she wants to hit Leoben, maybe get her teeth into his jugular and rip his throat clean out like an animal. She growls and spits, frenzied, and her feet slip, and then she's heaved back with a final effort, fighting and struggling against the men holding her. ]
Let me go! You don't understand! Let me go!
[ Sorry about your luck Ray. ]

He's glad for the help, if he's honest, and he's even more glad to see the ones dragging her off struggling just as much as he was when trying to defend himself.]
Hey. Hey! Chicago P.D!
[Dazedly scrambling to his feet as he grapples for his badge and flashing his gun.]
Cut it out or you'll be spending the next millennia in the slammer!

She understands "going to shoot you in the face" too.
Seething, she fell back, grinding her heels against the ground, narrowing her eyes at him. What the hell was he? A younger model? Smoothed out, more handsome, but still unmistakeably Leoben. She'd know him anywhere. ]
Let me go. You don't understand what he did to me. Let me go. [ She wrenched her arms free, but they were still crowding her just in case she kicked off again. ]
no subject
You don't understand what he did to me. Undoubtedly they won't. And he doesn't understand either.]
Lady, I don't know you.
[Hand curled around the butt of his gun that's still settled in his holster, wiping at his nose with the back of his other hand to test for bleeding. Seems his nose avoided the brunt of it, thank fuck, but his jaw, cheeks and temples are throbbing already.]
You gonna settle down or do I need to cuff ya?

Thrace. Kara Thrace. Starbuck. You don't know who I am? You really don't know?
[ It was like Boomer all over again, only this time it was ruining everything. He was supposed to feel it. She cast a sharp glare at the men beside her, then stepped forward aggressively, not raising her fists, but certainly squaring up to him. ]
Maybe if I hit you hard enough you'll remember.
no subject
Maybe. But those last lot of punches didn't jog my memory.
[He squares his shoulders right back at her, battered and bruised but trying to keep some of his pride.]
You wanna go, Thrace?
no subject
Some of it is catching up with her now. It's wrong, it's all wrong; but he could easily be a Cylon and not know. That would be just her luck.
She raised her chin, looked him right in the eye. Those same eyes, same everything. She'd know those eyes anywhere. She'd seen the light go out of them too many times not to know them. Couldn't she do it again now? Grab one of the bottles off the bar and jam it through his throat--she could do that. ]
Yeah, I do. I really do. Let's get out of here, save causing any collateral damage.
no subject
[His head jerks towards the rear exit, intent on not letting her get behind him or anywhere out of his vision. She doesn't fuck around, and while he can appreciate that, he also doesn't much like the chances of risking another attack.
At least this is the sort of bar where a girl and her fists and a guy and his gun are left alone to settle their differences without any further intervention.]
You try and jump me again and I swear I'll have you in on assault on an officer.
no subject
Even so, the desire to slam the door into his face is strong with this one. She lowers her hand to let the door swing gently closed. ]
The others remembered. It has to be in your head somewhere, what you did, and why you did it. You have to remember.
no subject
Then they're outside without incident and Ray hasn't made a runner for it. He's curious, and he's also not sure he should be letting one like this out of his sight just yet. What's to say she won't kill the next guy she takes a dislike to?]
Who are the others? [Just humour the crazy chick. Maybe that's the best way.]
